The goal of this course is to provide law enforcement personnel with appropriate intervention techniques when responding to situations where juveniles are involved. Officers often find contact with juveniles confusing and frustrating. This block of instruction addresses the special challenges faced by law enforcement personnel when attempting to gain compliance and cooperation from juveniles resisting the law and or adult regulations.
Topics include:
• Development of the juvenile mind
• Development of the delinquent mind
• Impact of domestic violence, alcoholism and drugs on juveniles
• Police as role models and mentors
• Discipline as a change agent in juveniles
• Child development and child compliance
• Effective intervention and compliance techniques
