This training program has been designed by a clinical professional with the purpose of addressing the issues of inmates who are pregnant while incarcerated. This training will satisfy the portion of the House Bill 3653 – SAFE-T Act/(730 ILCS 125). The Unified Code of Corrections and County Jail Act requires training on the medical and mental health care issues applicable to pregnant prisoners. This training will address how to interact with pregnant inmates during their incarceration and during the time of their birth. Information will be provided as to the medical, emotional, and nutritional needs of the pregnant inmate.

The goals of this course are as follows:

  • To understand the jail standards as they apply to pregnant inmates
  • To understand the role of the officer when interacting with pregnant inmates
  • To understand differences in daily life of a pregnant inmate
