This course expands on the CIT Concepts for 9-1-1 Personnel Day 1: Understanding CIT course. Students will review de-escalation techniques and connecting with callers. Most of the day will be spent working through scenarios so that students can test their skills and learn what works best as they develop their individual approaches to their craft. A professional actor will assist with scenarios to encourage realism and to provide feedback to telecommunicators that we do not typically receive in the real world. Wellness concepts will also be interleaved throughout the training day to emphasize the importance of first responder health.

Course Objectives:

  • Review appropriate listening and communicating techniques
  • Practice communicating using realistic scenarios
  • Experiment with problem-solving during scenarios
  • Review practical self-regulation techniques

Prerequisites: Students must have taken the Day 1 (CIT Concepts for 9-1-1 Personnel Day 1: Understanding CIT ) course. They do not have to re-take Day 1; however, the Day 1 course has evolved over time and some might find it beneficial to repeat it. Students should be telecommunicators and/or call takers in emergency service environments.
